Among all college students in the U.S., American Indian tribal college students have the highest smoking prevalence of all racial/ethnic groups. Interventions aimed at reducing smoking among AI college students are limited. In this study, we will develop a web-based culturally tailored smoking cessation program by adapting the “All Nations Breath of Life” program for the tribal college population. In order to deliver personalized and individually-tailored intervention, we will include the following inter-related components: 1) a web screening instrument to measure demographics, health status, smoking status, health behaviors, behavioral determinants, and level of motivation and confidence, 2) a message source file that contains all tailoring messages, 3) a computer program that offers the possibility to analyze the screening results and to select the correct message from the source file, and 4) utilization of oral, written, and interactive aspects throughout the program. Results from the qualitative focus groups addressing the above components will be presented along with a preliminary demonstration of the pilot website.
