Each year researchers, graduate students, policy makers, and practitioners give talks on prevention science topics, many of which have significant bearing on current prevention-related discourses. However, often only those present at the time of the talk (either live or streamed) benefit from the content. The Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center (PRC) at Penn State has launched a multi-faceted initiative called PrevTalks. Modeled after Stanford University’s Entrepreneurship Corner (http://ecorner.stanford.edu/), the PrevTalks initiative includes the hosting of videos and podcasts related to prevention science, coded and searchable by topic and by speaker. Content may be downloaded or delivered using a media player over the Internet. The overall purpose of PrevTalks is to disseminate more broadly the collective knowledge and discoveries of prevention scientists and stakeholders and to advance learning within the field. The initial phase includes recording, coding, and uploading content from the weekly seminars held at the PSU PRC. In later phases, the site will include content from other universities and organizations, as well as links to content-rich feeds delivered through/taken from Twitter, Yammer and other social media outlets. A demonstration of the pilot site and its initial features will be delivered as part of this session.
