The prevalence of multimorbidity, or the co-occurrence of two or more chronic health conditions, in the U.S. population is increasingly recognized, and regarded as both challenging and resource-intensive to assess and address. There are opportunities to prevent multimorbidity, delay its onset, or prevent its progression. This Brown Bag Special Interest Group will provide a forum for prevention scientists to discuss their interests, current research, and perspectives on research needs and gaps related to the prevention of multimorbidity. The Brown Bag will be facilitated by staff scientists from the Office of Disease Prevention at the National Institutes of Health. Discussion topics will include 1) identifying interventions that are effective in preventing multimorbidity, 2) interventions to address multimorbidity in diverse systems of care, 3) understanding underlying mechanisms that contribute to multimorbidity, and 4) methodology/design issues for studying multimorbidity, as well as other topics identified by session participants.
