The purpose of the SIG is to discuss interventions in adults who have had severely adverse childhood to reduce their liability for a range of medical disorders. This area of research is becoming a major topic of interest for NIH (especially the National Institute on Aging) and for at least two UK research councils. What can this new field learn from successful preventive interventions in adults that prevent subsequent behavioral problems? Are there principles for designing trials, for recruiting subjects for trials and for designing and implementing interventions that might inform this nascent field? Who in the SPR community might be interested in applying their skills in related areas to this new problem? What data from long-term follow-up of successful preventive trials earlier in the life span might illumine this new field.”
