(2-023) SIG 2: DEVELOPING A RESEARCH AGENDA FOR PREVENTION SCIENCE UNDER HEALTH REFORM

Schedule:
Wednesday, May 27, 2015: 12:00 PM-1:00 PM
Lexington (Hyatt Regency Washington)
Speaker/Presenter:
Harold I. Perl
The Affordable Care Act and the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act are now laws of the land. Healthcare reform is in full swing.  These new laws give a more prominent role to prevention practice, yet transforming this role from intent to actualization is more complicated and challenging.  While the time appears ripe for expanding prevention research, a clear path for growing prevention science in the health care arena is not so easily seen. The purpose of this SIG is to facilitate discussion about directions to pursue in advancing knowledge about how to facilitate a broader prevention focus for the US healthcare system as well as how to integrate more evidence based prevention interventions into healthcare practice across the US.
