The Mentor Foundation International Prevention Hub

This poster will present the Prevention Hub, Mentor International's global initiative to develop a focal point for accessing information, advice and support for all working within the drug prevention community.

A focal point for sharing research, policy and best practice – the Prevention Hub builds networks and supports the global drug prevention community

This unique development is intended to support the drug prevention community including:

  • Those delivering drug prevention to young people such as community workers, teachers, youth workers, carers, parents and families
  • Youth groups
  • Scientists working in the drugs / addiction field
  • Specifically drug prevention scientists and specialists
  • Policy makers
  • Funders
  • Anyone interested in protecting young people from the harms that drugs can cause

It will be particularly focussed on supporting the development and dissemination of evidence based practice and policy for substance abuse prevention. The Hub will be made up of the following five areas:

  • INFORMATION – an online library containing research, news, policy, statistics and events
  • PROMISING & EFFECTIVE PRACTICE – a guide to effective prevention and evaluated projects
  • WHO IS WHO? – a database of who is working in prevention
  • SUPPORT & SHARING – a forum for discussion, exchange and support
  • TRAINING – tools, guides, webinars, videos and online lectures

The Drug Prevention Hub will support all those who wish to learn more and improve their drug prevention work on the ground, therefore ensuring that young people receive the most effective, informed, evaluated and knowledge based interventions.

The global knowledge centre that helps the helpers in drug prevention safeguard our youth

The poster will introduce the project and explain the plan for its development and content. It will engage all attendees at the conference in something that will have real value to them as participants and members of the drug prevention community. This project has international relevance to all who work or are engaged in the field of substance abuse prevention. The poster will seek input and ideas as to how the hub can be best developed to meet the needs of those present and in this sense will be an interactive poster session.
